Concrete Patch & Repair

Spalls, chips, broken edges, and cracks that cannot be ground are repaired with a bonded cement-polymer patch or crack injection.

The problem

Not every hazard is a raised edge. Spalled surfaces, chipped corners, broken-out sections at joints, and open cracks catch heels and wheels, and they get worse each season water gets in.

When it applies

  • Surface spalling, chips, or broken-out concrete at edges and joints.
  • Cracks that need to be sealed before they widen.
  • Areas that cannot be ground because of their shape or location.
  • Small defects where replacing the whole section would be out of proportion to the problem.

How we do it

  1. 1

    Prepare the surface

Loose material is removed and the area is cleaned so the repair bonds to sound concrete.

  2. 2

    Patch with a cement-polymer material

A cement-based material with a polymer additive is used for adhesion and durability, shaped to match the surrounding surface.

  3. 3

    Open and inject cracks

Cracks are opened and injected with a flexible sealant so water stays out and the edges stay tight.

Patching fills the gap between grinding and replacement. It is the right repair for defects that are not a height difference: spalls, chipped edges, and cracks.

CHS uses a cement-polymer patching material for adhesion and a crack injection sealant where an open crack needs to be closed. Both are selected to hold up in a walkway, not just to look finished on the day we leave.
